This early Robert Hansen work predates his first Los Angeles exhibition in 1958 at Ferus Gallery by 5 years. It is a fascinating window into his work and its evolution from the earliest years of more representational figural painting that later evolved to become much more abstract. Hansen has always retained some idea of the figure in all his painting, which in part is due to his childhood spent in a family of butchers in Nebraska.
